Honors: Today we will finish reading Act II and complete the study guide questions to review for the quiz tomorrow. Unit 12 vocabulary is due on Thursday this week.
Standard: Today we will read Act II and work on the study guide questions. You will have a quiz on Act II on Wednesday and we will take the Act II vocabulary test on Thursday.

Tuesday
Honors: Today we will take the quiz on Act II and begin reading Act III.
Standard: Today we will finish reading Act II and review the study guide for the quiz tomorrow.

Wednesday
Honors: Today we will finish reading Act III and view the scenes from the video.
Standard: Today we will take the Act II quiz and begin reading Act III.

Thursday
Honors: Today we will correct Unit 12 vocabulary and finish viewing Act III. There will be a short activity to complete.
Standard: Today we will take the Act II vocabulary quiz and read Act III. We may view scenes from the movie if there is time.

Friday
All: Today we will watch a video about Shakespeare's life. You will work on vocabulary and the Shakespeare packet, which is due on May 27th.

Honors: Today we will finish reading Act I of Romeo and Juliet. We will view scenes from the movie after we're done reading. There will be a test on Act I on Wednesday, April 30. Unit 11 vocabulary will be due on Friday, May 2.
Standard: Today we will finish reading the prologue and analyze the structure of a sonnet. We will read Act I, Scene I of Romeo and Juliet. There will be a test on Act I on Thursday, May 1. Act I vocabulary will be due on Friday, May 2 and we will have a test that day.

Tuesday
Honors: Today we will finish viewing scenes from Romeo and Juliet and we will review the study guide questions for the test tomorrow. We will compare different film versions of the play (if time).
Standard: Today we will finish reading Act I of Romeo and Juliet and view selected scenes from the film version of the play.

Wednesday
Honors: Today you will have a test on Act I of Romeo and Juliet. We will also read Act II, Scene 1. We will continue comparing scenes from different film versions of the play.

Honors: Today you will take a vocabulary test for units 7 and9. We will review the Shakespeare packet assignments, which are due by May 27, 2008. We will read an article about Shakespeare and practice our Shakespearean insults. Unit 10 vocabulary will be due on Friday, April 25.

All: Today we will read "The Seven Ages of Man" dramatic monologue from Shakespeare's play, As You Like It. We will paraphrase the monologue and then draw a comic strip.

All: Today we will complete the comic strips and share with the class. We will read an article about the Globe Theatre and write a response paragraph. You will work on your Shakespeare packet as well.

Thursday
All: Today you will take a brief quiz on "The Seven Ages of Man." We will begin reading the prologue of Romeo and Juliet.

Friday
Honors: Today we will review the answers to Unit 10 vocab. We will finish the prologue activities and read Act I, Scenes i and ii of Romeo and Juliet.

REMINDER: Standard classes need to be completing Mystery Notebook entries as we read the rest of To Kill a Mockingbird. The Reveal Day letters will be written and delivered Thursday and Friday this week. TEST on To Kill a Mockingbird this Friday!!!

Monday
Honors: Today we will take the SRI test. We will complete the writing assignment for "The Scarlet Ibis" when we are finished testing. UNIT 9 of the vocab book is due on Friday. We will have a test on Unit 7 and Unit 9 next Monday, April 21.
Standard: Today we will take the SRT test. We will work on the To Kill a Mockingbird packet when we are finished testing. REMEMBER the last five pages in the packet are due on WEDNESDAY.

Tuesday
Honors: Today we will read "The Gift of the Magi."
Standard: Today we will read chapter 28-29 of To Kill a Mockingbird.

Wednesday
Honors: Today we will discuss "The Gift of the Magi" and complete a RAFT assignment on the story.
Standard: Today we will read chapters 30-31 of To Kill a Mockingbird (the END!!!). We will complete a short activity about Scout and Boo Radley. THE TKAM PACKET IS DUE TODAY!

Thursday
Honors: Today we will finish the RAFT assignment on "The Gift of the Magi" and complete a writing activity.
Standard: Today we will play review Jeopardy for To Kill a Mockingbird to prepare for our novel test tomorrow. We will also write our Mystery Notebook Reveal Day letters.

Friday
Honors: Today we will review the answers to Unit 9 vocabulary. We will also take a test on "The Gift of the Magi" and "The Scarlet Ibis." If we have time, we will complete a Meter and Rhyme Scheme activity.
Standard: Today we will take the novel test on To Kill a Mockingbird.

Honors: Today we will take the test on Animal Farm and check the answers to the packet you completed over spring break. We will also review Point of View and take notes. HOMEWORK: Complete Unit 7 in your vocab book- Due Friday.
Standard: Today we will read chapters 19-20 in To Kill a Mockingbird.

Tuesday

Honors: Today we will complete an anticipation guide for "The Scarlet Ibis," and begin reading and annotating the text.
Standard: Today we will read chapters 21-22 in To Kill a Mockingbird.

Wednesday

Honors: Today we will finish reading "The Scarlet Ibis" and we will complete a story chart in groups.
Standard: Today we will read chapter 23 in TKAM and we will complete an analysis chart of Atticus' closing arguments in chapter 20.

Thursday

Honors: Today we will complete the "Effect of Similes" and "Textual Evidence" paper for "The Scarlet Ibis."
Standard: Today we will read chapter 24 in TKAM and work on the last 5 pages in the TKAM packet. The last 5 pages of the TKAM packet are due on April 16.

Friday

Honors: Today we will review Unit 7 vocab homework. We will also complete the "Great Motif Hunt" activity for "The Scarlet Ibis."

THEME JOURNALS ARE DUE ON MONDAY, MARCH 24, 2008. These are the 9-weeks exam grades. They will be marked down a full letter grade each day they are late. ABSOLUTELY NO JOURNALS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER WEDNESDAY, MARCH 26, 2008 due to necessary grading time before the end of the 3rd quarter.

This week you will receive a reading schedule and an assignment due date list for the rest of this quarter. These will be sent to you via email and you will receive a printed copy in class.

Please NOTE: I have deleted the class blog posts from the schedule. We have a lot to do already and as much as I'd like to keep up with the blogging, it's not possible due to time constraints. HONORS: You will still be expected to post your Friday Journal blogs. This message pertains to the class discussion blog ONLY.

Monday
Honors: Read through chapter 23 by today. Literature Circles in class then free time to work on theme journal.
Standard: Read chapters 13-14 today.

Tuesday
Honors: There will be no class today due to FCAT NRT testing.
Standard: 4th period will not meet. Please read assigned chapters for homework. 5th-6th: Read chapter 15. Work on Theme Journals and packet.

Wednesday
Honors: Read chapters 24-26 by today. Literature Circles in class and then free time to work on theme journals.

Honors: Today we will work on Theme Journals and the TKAM packet. You will also have time to begin reading chapters 27-31. You will need to finish reading the book over the weekend. There will be a test on Monday.

Honors: Today we will review the Thematic Connections Journal for TKAM. This project will be your 9 weeks assessment grade. We will substitute the multiple choice test for a project this quarter due to FCAT testing being so soon before the end of the 9 weeks. You should have read through chapter 17 by now. Read chapters 18-20 by Friday.

Standard: Today we will review the Thematic Connections Journal for TKAM. This project will be your 9 weeks assessment grade. You will receive your Mystery Notebook number and your partner's number. DO NOT LOSE YOUR NUMBER. Remember to write responses to your partner ONLY in your assigned book. Responses should ONLY relate to the entry prompt and the reading. NO NON-ACADEMIC WRITING SHOULD END UP IN THE MYSTERY NOTEBOOK. Remember that the Mystery Notebook is a MYSTERY. Don't reveal your identity until the Reveal Day Ceremony.

Tuesday
Today is FCAT Reading. You will go directly to your testing location and stay there until the end of testing. Then you will report to either lunch or your 5th period class (depending on the location of your 5th period class). Remember 5th and 6th period are regular class days. We will be reading and working on the Thematic Connections Journal.

There will be NO First or Second period today. Go directly to your 3rd period class. Both 3rd and 4th period will be two hours long. Friday
Honors: You will conduct literature circles on chapters 17-20 today. Read through chapter 23 by Monday.

Standard: We will continue reading and working on the Mystery Notebooks today. You should have read up to chapter 14 by the end of class today.

Reminder: The To Kill a Mockingbird packet will be due when we finish reading the book. We will periodically correct the worksheets in the packet as we get closer to finishing the novel. The Thematic Connections Journal is IN PLACE of your 9 weeks exam. It is a major grade and should be treated as such. Standard: The Mystery Notebook will continue until we finish the novel. Keep up on the reading so you don't get piled on near the end!

All: Today we will learn about the Scottsboro Boys and how their story relates to TKAM.

Honors: Today we will have literature circle discussions on Chapters 1-3. You should read chapters 4-6 (Due Friday).

Standard: Today we will read and discuss Chapter 1.

Thursday
Honors: Today we will complete a connection activity and review the Theme Journal you will be completing as you read TKAM.

Standard: Today we will read chapters 1-2.

Honors: Today we will have literature circle discussions on chapters 4-6. You should read chapters 7-8 over the weekend.

Standard: Today you will receive an Odyssey Packet for review. You will read and mark the text. Then answer the questions in the packet. This is due FRIDAY. We will also continue working on the Odyssey Project.

Tuesday
Honors: Today we will write a one-page storyresponse to a picture. You will also view a commentary video about the Odyssey and take notes.
Standard: Today you will continue working on the Odyssey Project and your packet.

Wednesday
Honors: Today we will read the story of Perseus and you will receive your project corrections. Remember that we are evaluating the final draft of your project on Friday. Work with your group to revise your project page. If we have time, you will present the Who's Who assignment you completed last week.
Standard: Today we will continue working on the Odyssey Project. Your first draft worksheets are due today.

Thursday
Honors: Today we will take a look at epic similes and practice writing a literary analysis paragraph. Remember that your final project page is due tomorrow.

Thursday: Today we will view a video on Martin Luther King, Jr. You will complete a 3-2-1 chart on the video. There will be a sub today. Behave. :-)

Friday: Today we will view an introductory video about mythology. We are starting our mythology unit very soon! :-) There will also be a sub in today. Behave.

The due date for your "Necklace" non-print analysis has been moved to 1-30-08 because of changes in the rising 10th graders registration date. Your registration date will be Monday, 1-28-08.

Monday: Today we will begin a written analysis of "The Wizard of Oz." You will use the analysis notes that you completed before the break and an organizer worksheet to write your paper. You will also receive a study guide list to use for your 9-weeks exam and your semester exam.
**DUE DATE**
Honors- First draft of your Wizard of Oz paper due TUESDAY. Final draft due WEDNESDAY. You do NOT have to type this paper. However, it must be neatly written if it's not typed. If you type it, please double-space the paper and use 12 pt Times New Roman font.
Standard: Your final draft is due on FRIDAY. It must be typed or neatly written. Follow the same formatting guidelines.

Tuesday: Honors: Today you will write an expository essay about heroes. Your first draft of the heroes essay is due at the beginning of class WEDNESDAY.
Standard: Today you will continue working on your Wizard of Oz analysis paper.

Wednesday: Honors: We will complete TAG peer editing conferences with the HERO essay. Your WIZARD OF OZ essay is due today.
Standard: Today you will write an expository essay on heroes.

Thursday: FOURTH PERIOD- 9- weeks exam. Everyone else: We're reading "The Necklace" and completing question activities.

Friday: SECOND AND FIFTH PERIOD- 9-weeks exam. Everyone else: We're reading "The Necklace" and completing question activities.

THIRD AND SIXTH PERIOD WILL TAKE THE 9-WEEKS TEST ON MONDAY.

There will be a non-print analysis on "The Necklace" that will be due on January 28th. You will receive the assignment sheet and rubric on Thursday, January 10. We will also look at several examples to help you get ideas for what to complete. This is the first major grade for the 3rd quarter and so I'm giving you all a LOT of advance notice.
